Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer's disease is a brain disorder that results in memory loss, impaired ability to function and inability to take care of themselves. Conventional medicine is most commonly used, however nutraceuticals also is beneficial to a person's well being. Some of the herbs used are as followed:
1. Ginkgo biloba: 40-80 mg. 3 times a day, standardized to contain 24-27% ginko flavone glycosides and 6-7% triterpenes per dose. (may improve memory and quality of life, along with possibly slowing the progression in early stages of the disease)
2. Vinpocetine: 10-40 mg. twice daily. (cognitive function, increased brain function)
3. HuperzineA: 100-150 mcg. 2-3 times per day or 200 mcg. twice a day. (improved memory and alertness)
4. Bacopa: 100 mg. 3 times a day, standardized to contain 20% bacosides A and B per dose. (enhances memory and improves cognitive function)

Vitamin/Nutraceuticals:
1. Phosphatidyl Choline: 500-1500 mg. 2-3 times a day. (helps the body make more acetylcholine, which is deficient in AD patients, which in turn improves mental function)
2. Phosphatidyl Serine: 100 mg. 3 times a day. (enhances memory)
3. Acetyl-L-Carnitine: 500-2000 mg. a day in divided doses. (enhances memory and overall performance in AD patients)
4. Vitamin E: 200-800 international units a day. (Natural vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol) is more absorbed and retained in the body longer than synthetic vitamin E, it may slow the progression of AD)
