Reduced CoQ10
The preferred form of CoQ10 is ubiquinol, which is the reduced form of CoQ10. Most of us are familiar with CoQ10 as ubiquinone, ubiquinone gets converted in the body to ubiquinol. However, some individuals have a genetic variation that prevents them from effectively converting ubiquinone to ubiquinol(active form) , which results in low blood levels of ubiquinol and poor energy production. These individuals cannot use ubiquinone because it is ineffective, therefore supplementing with ubiquinol is a better choice. Ubiquinol is a lipid soluble antioxidant produced in the body, this allows it to protect the mitochondria(cell's power source) from free radicals. It also helps recycle vitamin E and protects our LDL cholesterol from free radical attack.
